Saturday's Stabbing Victim Has Died

Coopertown Stabbing Victim, Wayne Stephenson, Dies

UPDATE 5:54pm Tuesday: Wheaton charged with Criminal Homicide: Story updated below.

COOPERTOWN TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the victim from a stabbing incident that occurred on Saturday in Coopertown. (original story) The victim is identified as Wayne Stephenson, 46, of Springfield.

On Saturday the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and EMS responded to a residence on Lipscomb Road in the Coopertown Community around 6:20pm. According to Robertson County EMS Assistant Director Russell Gupton, the patient
(now identified at Wayne Stephenson) had been stabbed. The 46 year old male suffered at least two wounds and was in critical condition at the scene and displayed signs of shock, Gupton said.

Richard Douglas Wheaton

Stephenson was transported initially to NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield and then airlifted to Vanderbilt’s trauma center in Nashville, Gupton said.

According to Ryan Martin, PIO with the Robertson County Sheriff’s office, Richard Douglas Wheaton, 51, of Cedar Hill was taken into custody as a suspect in the stabbing and charged with Aggravated Assault on Saturday. Wheaton was transported to the Robertson County Detention facility in Springfield on a 20,000 bond. Wheaton bonded out the same day.

The Sheriff’s office is now confirming that Stephenson has died from his injuries and they are in consultation with the District Attorneys Office regarding additional charges.

UPDATE 5:54pm Tuesday: Wheaton has been charged with Criminal Homicide or (Murder, Reckless Homicide, according to the Sheriff’s web information) and a new bond of $500,000 has been set. Wheaton turned himself into the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield this afternoon, according to Robertson County Sheriff’s Office PIO Ryan Martin. As of 9:30P.M. Tuesday evening, Wheaton has not bonded out.

According to an affidavit obtained by Smokey Barn News from Robertson County General Sessions Court, the altercation between Wheaton and Stephenson occurred on Lipscomb Rd.. Wheaton was leaving his mother’s house next door to where Stephenson was visiting, both houses share the same driveway.

Wheaton was driving down the driveway passing Stephenson. Wheaton stopped his truck in the driveway beside the house and started yelling at Stephenson and others at the house, the affidavit said.

Stephenson and others told Wheaton to keep driving. Wheaton then started calling people names. Stephenson then walked over to Wheaton’s truck and that’s when Wheaton hit Stephenson in the neck with his knife cutting him, according to the affidavit.  Wheaton then left and went back to his house located a short distance away on Sandy Springs Rd. and called police, the affidavit said.

Recovery Strategies 300 aSmokey Barn News has also confirmed with the with the Sheriff’s office that Wayne Stephenson is the father of Logan Stephenson who died earlier this year from ingesting “racing fuel cocktail.” According to Greenbrier Police back in January, autopsy results indicated that acute methanol toxicity was the cause of Logan’s death. Methanol is a type of racing fuel. Two teens died after drinking the concoction police said back in January. MORE

When asked, the Robertson County Sheriff’s office indicated that there was no connection between the two incidences.

This is a developing story, as updates become available we will bring them to you.

Police: White House Firefighter Faked Medical Calls To Steal Drugs

Michael Ray Bogle Jr 1a

Michael Ray Bogle Jr

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  A firefighter with the White House Fire Department has resigned following allegations that he used his position as a firefighter to ruse residents out of their Oxycodone and other drugs. Michael Ray Bogle Jr, 33, of Hendersonville has been charged with one count of Official Misconduct, two counts of theft under $500, and two counts of simple possession.

According to White House Police records obtained by Smokey Barn News, suspicions about Bogle began back in February when police were called to a home located on Tyree Springs Road regarding stolen medication. The resident told police that on February 15, a man “posing as a fireman” knocked at his front door. The victim told police that he didn’t open the door at first but then realized it was someone from the fire department.

According to the report, the victim told police that the fireman said that someone called and reported that he needed his blood pressure checked. The victim said he didn’t call and no one in his family had called the fire department, the report stated.

Recovery Strategies 300 aThe victim told police, the man then asked to see his medications. The victim complied. After showing the man his medications the man asked for a pencil and paper so he could write them down. The victim told police that he then left the room to retrieve the pencil and paper and when he returned the man had his medication in his hand and said there were 20 something pills in the bottle. The victim told police that there were 73 pills in the bottle on Saturday night.

The victim told police that the fireman then got up and headed for the door, forgot to check his blood pressure and never wrote anything down on the paper.

According to 911 dispatch, there were no medical calls dispatched to Tyree Springs Road that day.

On March 16, at the request of White House detectives, police were called to another home, an apartment in the 3000 block of Hwy 31W. The resident told police that she is prescribed Oxycodone and Alprazolam (Xanax). The victim told police that about three or four months ago she had a medical event and required the services of first responders.

According to the report , the victim told police that about one week later, one of the firefighters (that had responded) showed up at her house to “check her blood pressure, and count her pills.”

The victim said that she allowed the fireman “Mike” in to do these things. The victim went on to say that the “fireman” came by ten to twelve more times over the course of three or four months. The woman told police that the firefighter would come by once a week and would even come by to “check on her” while he was off duty, plain clothed, the report states.

The victim told police that one time she was visiting a friend next door when “Mike” came by to check on her again. The friend told police that “Mike” got out of a brush truck that was driven by another firefighter and came inside. The victim’s friend told police that the firefighter told her she needed to leave because he needed to “count
revised oklahoma bannerthe pills” of her friend, according to the report. That didn’t make any since to the friend, so she questioned him about it. She said the firefighter told her that “They sometimes go to the houses of known drug users and count pills and take unneeded pills to the dispensary at the fire hall,” the report states.

The friend told police that she knew this wasn’t right so she called the Fire Hall and spoke with the Fire Chief. The firefighter was described as being approximately 6′, 240 lbs with short black hair and a round face. The report also mentions that Mike the fireman made mention of a wife and kids and said that he had talked about becoming a missionary with his church.

Smokey Barn News reached out to White House city officials including Police Chief Pat Brady, Fire Chief Joe Palmer, the Mayor of White House Michael Arnold and the city Attorney Valerie Webb, all declined an on camera interview or to comment on the charges citing ongoing investigation.

Smokey Barn News reached out to White House Human Resources and they confirmed that Bogle is no longer employed with the White House Fire Department and that he had resigned.

Though no one would talk on the record, at least one official conceded that there is no way to tell how many victims there could be. Bogle had been with the department since 2008.

Two Semis Wreck At Same Intersection Just Hours Apart

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Two tractor trailers crashed at the same intersection just hours apart Tuesday in Springfield, one colliding with a train. (Location of accidents)

We are still waiting on the Tennessee Highway Patrol to complete their investigation but what we do know is that the two rigs were transporting the same cargo. The two semis were transporting a large industrial scale that had been recently decommissioned and was being transported for recycling.

The first accident occurred around 2:PM and was (according to one source) caused by a broken fifth wheel that caused the trailer to lose the very heavy load.

The second accident occurring around 8:pm involved a a semi being struck by a train. Fortunately, no one was injured in either accident.

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The American Legion in White House Post 206 has been operating out of the same building on highway 31W since (believe it or not) World War II.

Needless to say, their building was in need of a little TLC. Home Depot apparently thought the same thing and donated thousands of dollars and a lot of man-hours to bring the old building back to life.

None of the employees were paid for their work, it was all done out of love for those who have served our country.

To learn how you can rent their facility for your wedding or party you can reach out them on their Facebook page—>  American Legion in White House Post 206

Obituary for John Mathias Steinhauer, Jr

John-Steinhauer-obitJohn Mathias Steinhauer, Jr. was born in Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday, July 23, 1925, to Johnny Steinhauer and Gertrude Garretty Steinhauer. He was the third child and first son. He grew up in East Nashville with his sisters Katherine (Coffey) and Martha (Shaw) and led a very typical early 20th century life with his policeman father and homemaking mother. This all changed in the summer of 1932, when, at the age of 7, John contracted what was then known as Infantile Paralysis (Polio).

As his father was a beloved Nashville City police officer who directed traffic on church street in Nashville, several prominent Nashville businessmen appealed directly to President Franklin Roosevelt for admission to his Warm Springs Georgia treatment center on behalf of his son. John was admitted for treatment and spent almost a year at Warm Springs. FDR was in his first term as President and visited Warm Springs for his own treatment four times during that year where John got to swim and dine with the President, and was even taken for a ride in the President’s car into the village of Warm Springs for ice cream. John never let the limitations of living the rest of his life with a full leg brace slow him down in any facet of his life.

John graduated from East High School in Nashville. He served as class President and was active in all aspects of the life of the school. East High and the Alumni Association remained a passion for John throughout his life. In the fall of 1951, on a train trip to Atlanta to watch Vanderbilt play Georgia Tech, Nashville Banner columnist, Red O’Donnell introduced John to Jane Hagewood, also from East Nashville. They were married on June 21, 1952. Their first daughter, Joni, was born in 1953 and son, Matt (John III), was born in 1955.

The next year John and Jane moved their young family to Hendersonville and built a house on what would soon be the shores of Old Hickory Lake. Daughter, Janet, came soon after the move in 1957, and a few years later, son Steven in 1961, and daughter, Julie in 1965. Initially, Jane and John continued their interest in the Nashville community, but as their children entered Hendersonville Elementary School, it became obvious that they needed to invest their time and efforts to help strengthen their newly adopted town.

John and Jane worked tirelessly to open opportunities for people who lived in Hendersonville. He organized the Evening Sertoma Club; worked with six other families to start St. Timothy Lutheran Church, where he served as chair of the building committee, taught Sunday school, and served on the congregational council.

After working his way into the community, John ran for elected office in 1964 to represent Sumner County in the Tennessee State Legislature. He lost that election but was elected two years later. Altogether, John served four terms in the legislature and one term as Chief Bill Clerk. During his freshman year, he sponsored the PKU Bill which required all newborns to have a simple, inexpensive test to help identify babies who could begin immediate treatment to prevent mental retardation. This procedure is still being used today. Additionally, a test to detect hypo-thyroidism in newborns was enacted into legislation because of his introduction of the bill. John believed that of all of the legislation that he introduced, these two remain the most important because of their humanitarian nature, helping to detect the potential for mental retardation and presenting a medical plan to prevent retardation. In the same year, he presented the bill for the State to purchase the historic Rock Castle, 18th century home to one of Hendersonville’s first settlers, Daniel Smith. Soon thereafter he became active in pursuing the establishment of Volunteer State Community College. The College opened its doors in 1971. He appealed to a State committee to get approval for the Hendersonville Hospital. Having been told that it took three committees to approve the request, and being assured that it would not get passed the third committee, his plea was accepted unanimously and the new hospital was constructed. Additionally, over the years, John served as a Hendersonville City Commissioner, on the Planning Commission and the Industrial Development Board.

His additional civic involvement included being an active member of the Sertoma Club of Nashville and serving on the East Nashville Boy Scout’s Board, the Easter Seals Board of Directors for the State of Tennessee, The United Cerebral Palsy Board of Directors, where he served as president, and he continued to be active in the East Nashville High School Alumni Association right up to his death.

John’s vocational life included opening and running Hendersonville’s first optical shop, a telephone answering service, and a public relations firm. He and attorney Dennis Sanders and Mike Flemming applied for to the FCC and were granted a license to operate Hendersonville’s first FM radio station: WHVT (now 92Q). He spent 25 years in the insurance business representing AFLAC.

Married to his wife, Jane, for 64 years, he is survived by four children: Joni Worsham (Phillip), recently retired principal of Hendersonville High School, Matt Steinhauer (Leann), Pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Lebanon, Janet McCarthy (Joe, deceased), flight attendant trainer who lives in Chandler, Arizona, and Steven Steinhauer who lives in Chicago, IL.
